An all-in-one 6th-grade book, in the tradition of supplementary school materials

The "all-in-one" format is well-known to parents: a single textbook that brings together all the year's subjects, with lessons, methods, and exercises. The "six major subjects" in the 6th-grade table of contents

The table of contents on page 2 announces what it calls "the six major subjects": French, mathematics, history, geography, moral and civic education, and then a sixth part that brings together science, technology, and English. No Spanish in 6th grade: the second foreign language doesn't start until 7th grade. No physics-chemistry under that name either: the science section deals with living things, matter, the sky, and technical objects. It is therefore not a manual devoted to a single discipline: neither a history textbook, nor a geography textbook, nor one of those French textbooks that you open subject by subject. In history-geography, you go from Lascaux to Rome, then from world maps to coastlines, in the same volume. The principle is summed up in one line, written on page 2: one concept per page.

39 illustrations, three maps, one timeline

The book contains 39 illustrations: 20 documentary photographs and engravings (the Lascaux cave, the Parthenon, the Colosseum, the Great Wall), three labeled maps, and sixteen diagrams and figures, from geometry to science, including civic benchmarks. Added to this is a chronological timeline of the ancient worlds, on page 62. The images come from Wikimedia Commons, are in the public domain or under a free license, and their source is printed under each one. The layout, in two colors and double rules, is reminiscent of school books of the past.

Who publishes this book

Kidibook is an independent publishing house, not affiliated with the Ministry of National Education: this manual is neither published nor validated by it, and we do not send specimens to teachers. Our school books do not appear on any school's list. When new curricula come into effect, middle schools renew the textbooks they lend to students; these classroom books change, but this one stays at home. On page 1, the book states that it follows the official 6th-grade curriculum and complements teachers' lessons without replacing them. The text is written and laid out by us and is protected by copyright.

What the book does not contain

It's best to state it clearly. There are no multiple-choice questions or answer keys: the exercises are short questions, one per lesson at most, with no printed answer space. There is no index or alphabetical glossary; the table of contents is thematic, subject by subject, without page numbers. And there is nothing to download: no online educational resources, no digital manual, no license to activate. What arrives at your home is a paperback paper manual, never a PDF file to print yourself: it works the day it arrives, without a connection, and it is yours.

A book you buy, not one you borrow

Each copy is printed on demand, then shipped. It does not go through a bookstore, no bookseller orders it, and it is not borrowed from the school library or public libraries. Before 6th grade
