Common traps of the 6th grade list
- Small grid or large grid: math wants small grid, almost everything else wants large grid (Séyès). This is the most common purchasing mistake.
- 48 pages "to save money": a 48-page notebook runs out in February. With 96 pages, you'll last the year.
- The graphing calculator: useless in middle school — it's a high school purchase, three times more expensive. In 6th grade, the fx-92 Collège is enough for all four years.
- The overly heavy backpack: aim for a lightweight empty bag, and get into the habit of keeping a duplicate pencil case and glue at home rather than carrying everything.
- Label everything: name and class on every notebook, every textbook lent by the school, and even the calculator. Unmarked items never return from the lost and found.
